Derrymore Welcomes Sam Maguire!
Sam Maguire and Shane McPartlan arrived in Derrymore to rapturous applause on Tuesday 12th November; a day that will undoubtedly live long in the memory of the pupils of our school.
Our pupils welcomed Shane and Sam with a guard of honour before entering our assembly hall which was bedecked in orange and white. After an ear splitting rendition of ‘G stands for Geezer’, everyone eagerly watched highlights of the All-Ireland final and recreated the euphoria of winning the most prized possession in the GAA world.
Shane answered some questions from our pupil council before sitting through photos with all our classes. Before leaving, he was presented with a few gifts, with the pride of these being a fabulous drawing of the Sam Maguire Cup, proudly presented by Anna in P7, who put so much time and effort into producing it.
Shane was a terrific guest and a wonderful role model for our pupils. No doubt Tuesday’s events will live long in all our memories and Shane himself will have gained a legion of new fans!
All pictures taken on our class have been (eventually) posted, regardless of quality.
